FDA Removes Boxed Warning from Long-Acting Beta Agonists (LABAs) and Inhaled Corticosteroids (ICS)

On December 20, 2017 the FDA removed its most prominent warning, the Boxed Warning, about asthma-related death from the drug labels of medicines that contain both an ICS and LABA. These include Advair Diskus, Advair HFA, Airduo Respiclick, Breo Ellipta, Dulera, and Symbicort. Controversy surrounding LABAs has persisted since salmeterol was originally approved by the FDA in 1994.
