The National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care

December 20, 2016 - Literature Review

Probably all readers of this blog will have already read and thought about the Long-Term Oxygen Therapy Trial (LOTT) study, recently published in the New England Journal (NEJM. 2016; 375:1617–27). This landmark study looked at the role of supplemental oxygen in patients with COPD with either resting or exercise-induced moderate desaturations. This is the first large-scale oxygen study performed since the 1970s when the Nocturnal Oxygen Treatment Trial (NOTT) and Medical Research Council (MRC) studies were performed in the US and UK, respectively.

12-12-16 Respiratory Compromise

Respiratory compromise is not only gaining attention in the medical community but also in the lay media. Please see this television report from News 5 Cleveland, an ABC affiliate television station which ran a story on the phenomenon of “dead in bed”. This refers to unexpected deaths of patients admitted to general medical floor of hospitals; the cause of death is largely attributable to patient controlled analgesia - opiate overdoses.

NAMDRC Blogpost 10-17-16

NAMDRC is excited to announce our 40th annual meeting which will be held between March 23 and 25 at The Meritage Resort in Napa, California. An exciting program is planned. As is the custom for the NAMDRC meeting, the mornings will be devoted to the scientific program with the afternoons being free for exploration of the Napa Valley area and interaction with faculty and other guests.

NAMDRC’s 38th Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting and Educational Conference of the National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care (NAMDRC) was held March 12-14, 2015 at The FireSky Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. The meeting, Clinical, Management and Health Policy Issues in Pulmonary Medicine, continued NAMDRC’s tradition of excellence in continuing medical education. Topics covered included cutting edge clinical topics in pulmonary and critical care medicine, health care policy, and practice management.

When is Ventilation Not Ventilation?

NAMDRC is genuinely a bit different. We focus on issues that others, for understandable and reasonable reasons, might be secondary. But because our mission is to remove regulatory and legislative barriers to access to appropriate care in the pulmonary arena, we try to be vigilant, informative, and on occasion aggressive in our pursuits.
