Susan Jacobs RN, MS is the Research Nurse Manager in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, and also a Nurse Coordinator in Stanford’s Interstitial Lung Disease Program. Her background includes roles as critical care educator, NIH project director for a COPD and exercise study, and coordinator of pulmonary rehabilitation.  She works closely with the Pulmonary Fibrosis and Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) foundations, develops patient education materials, and provides outreach ILD and LAM support groups, educational seminars, and webinars. Susan seeks to improve patient care with an emphasis on managing quality of life issues related to oxygen use, dyspnea and cough. Susan is actively involved in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and chairs the Oxygen Special Interest Group. She is lead author on the results of the first national patient survey of almost 2000 supplemental oxygen users in the United States, published in the Annals of ATS in January 2018. Susan co-chaired the 2017 multidisciplinary ATS Oxygen Workshop (manuscript in press), and is a current co-chair of the ATS Clinical Practice Guidelines on Supplemental Oxygen Therapy for Adults with Chronic Lung Disease. She received the national LAM Foundation Leader award in 2014 and the Outstanding Clinician Award from the California Thoracic Society in 2016.
