Michael M. Rey, MD, MSHP is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.  He received his MD degree, did a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency, and completed pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and, for residency, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He completed fellowship this past December, 2019.

Dr. Rey has been building an expertise in home assisted ventilation. Under the mentorship of Dr. John Hansen-Flaschen he has helped to build the Jay and Randy Fishman Program for Home Assisted Ventilation at the University of Pennsylvania. This program treats patients with the spectrum of illnesses leading to chronic respiratory failure but has a particular focus on patients with neuromuscular disease. Drawing on his pediatric training he has also helped to build a care transition program from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for patients needing the same. He is, additionally, a member of the Adult Program for Cystic Fibrosis at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Rey has a Masters of Science in Health Policy Research. His research work has explored health care utilization and the impact of costs of care and care delivery mechanisms on young adults with chronic respiratory disease including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Cystic Fibrosis.  He was selected for the Academic Sleep and Pulmonary Integrated Research/Clinical (ASPIRE) Fellowship, a multi-institution research fellowship administered through the American Thoracic Society, to support both this clinical and research training.

Outside of work, Dr. Rey enjoys spending time hiking, reading, cooking and most importantly spending time with his three daughters.
